Using LibGuides to Manage the COVID-19 Community History Project
In the Spring of 2020, the University Archives at Minnesota State University Mankato, developed a Community History project to document the COVID-19 Pandemic experiences of the university and greater regional community. The project quickly expanded into a remote work opportunity for student employees, primarily international students. The University Archives utilized LibGuides to create a project website that included general project information as well as student worker and student supervisor training materials. Along the way, we also utilized LibAnswers to capture stories from individuals and LibWizard to quiz student employees. This presentation will discuss the COVID-19 Community History Project as well as how and why we utilized LibGuides (and the connected tools) for our project website.
June Madness: A Month of Book Bracketology
There might not have been a March Madness basketball tournament this year, but this library still made sure users could participate in an equally thrilling books bracket tourney. As universities across the country moved to digital spaces during the pandemic for education as well as engagement, libraries followed suit. June Madness! is a piece of passive programming offered by this academic library, utilizing the integration between LibWizard and LibGuides. This interactive presentation provides an overview of how to: create a unique guide page using look & feel modifications in LibGuides CMS; pull books from the catalog into a guide and reuse those assets in LibWizard with minimal HTML; and generate weekly surveys in LibWizard to embed in LibGuides based on prior weeks' results. With these reproducible techniques, we offered students the opportunity to interact with their library, voice their opinions, and predict winners on their own time, allowing them to learn about lending services at their own pace. Coordinated marketing of the program to university faculty, staff, alumni, and students showcased the library as a digital space not only for distance learning, but for fun and engagement as well.
Cut the Confusion! Using LibWizard Tutorials in Student Orientation
How does one shift student orientation from 37 ground campuses to a single 100% online environment in less than a year? With Springshare of course! We share the theory, goals, mechanics, and lessons learned from rapidly implementing a 3-phase fully online orientation for both new and transfer students drawn from under-served populations with no higher education experience to active duty military to seasoned graduate students. We integrate ideas and information from an orientation committee using LibWizard to create tutorials, quizzes, and communications while presenting key information through fun and engaging designs. Continual engagement and follow-up with committee members are critical to success. Join us to explore ideas and tips from this ongoing project.
Moving the Library's Website to LibGuides & LibCal
Dickinson Public Library migrated to LibGuides and LibCal in 2019 after its current system couldn’t grow anymore. The IT/Youth Librarian will discuss lessons they learned, their plan, and what prompted them to choose LibGuides and LibCal.
